Gluck's DON JUAN is a work that inspired Mozart to Don Giovanni, and tells the same story in a series of vivid dances. Together with Mozart's seldom heard LES PETITS RIENS the guest performance from Compagnie de danse l'Éventail will form an inspiring close to this year’s festival.

Christopher O’Regan will start the ball rolling (in Swedish)

Baroque dance: Is it some sort of ballet?
What actually is Baroque dance, and how can one achieve the gestures and movements of three hundred years ago nowadays? This is the theme of the seminar. Come along and hear the dialogue between Marie-Geneviève Massé, choreographer to the French Baroque dance company, l’Eventail, and Lena Cederwall Broberg, dancer, dance teacher and choreologist, who has long experience of Swedish eighteenth century style productions. They will discuss how we create and recreate Baroque dance, the stance we take in relation to sources, and what Baroque dance means to us today. Anna Karlander will preside and the discussion will take place in English.

The seminar is a joint effort organised by Drottningholms Slottsteater, Carina Aris Minnesfond and the Stockholm Baroque Dancers.

Guest Performances by Compagnie l'Eventail in August

5 april 2011

This August we are giving our audiences a chance to experience eighteenth century dance of international standing! The Compagnie l’Eventail, directed by choreographer Marie-Geneviève Massé, will be performing two dance productions during their three guest appearances at Drottningholms Slottsteater on 12th, 13th and 14th August, Les Petits Riens and Don Juan.

The choreography is created by Marie-Geneviève Massé, in the spirit of the age and showing respect for the dynamics and dance expression of the eighteenth century in interplay with the rhythm of the music. The Compagnie l’Eventail is one of the best reputed Baroque dance companies in existence and Marie-Geneviève Massé one of the most skilled and exacting choreographers working within this genre.

The twelve French dancers from the Compagnie l’Eventail will be supplemented by four Swedish dancers from the Stockholm Baroque Dancers. The orchestra of Drottningholms Slottsteater will be conducted by Mark Tatlow.

Tickets will be released on 15th April.

The guest performance is a co-operation between Drottningholms Slottsteater, the Compagnie l’Eventail and the Stockholm Baroque Dancers. With support from Carina Aris Minnesfond.
