Giulia Bolcato, a native of Vicenza, is regarded as one of the most sought-after sopranos in the Baroque repertoire today. The versatility of her artistry and the breadth of her repertoire have likewise led her to distinguished interpretations of leading roles from the Classical and Romantic traditions. 

Her operatic engagements include Musica and Euridice in Monteverdi’s Orfeo, Amore in Cavalli’s Gli amori di Apollo e di Dafne, Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Tusnelda in Bononcini’s Arminio, Lesbina in Vignola’s Lesbina e Milo, Fanny in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio, Ninetta in La gazza ladra, Elvira in L’italiana in Algeri, Gilda in Rigoletto, Norina in Don Pasquale, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, Oscar in Un ballo in maschera, Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos, Marianne in Der Rosenkavalier, Die Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte, Anaide in Rota’s Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, and Riccardo Albenori in Alessandro Scarlatti’s Il trionfo dell’onore. A DVD release of the latter production - staged in 2025 by Teatro La Fenice at the Teatro Malibran to mark the 300th anniversary of the composer’s death - was released by Dynamic to critical acclaim. 

Highlights of the current season include appearances at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Namur, and the Opéra Royal du Château de Versailles in Rameau’s Castor et Pollux; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at Teatro La Fenice; Legrenzi’s La Morte del Cor Penitente in Innsbruck, Bolzano, and Trento; Händel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato in Lisbon and at the Händel-Festspiele Halle; Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda in Stockholm; Drusilla in L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Drottningholms Slottsteater; and Elena in Il cappello di paglia di Firenze at Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, in addition to numerous concert engagements.

She has appeared at many of Europe’s leading opera houses and festivals, including the Royal Swedish Opera Stockholm, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Teatro Filarmonico Verona, Opera Carlo Felice Genova, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini.

She is also a regular guest at internationally renowned festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Mozartwoche Salzburg, Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Hofmusik Festival Innsbruck, Urbino Musica Antica, Valletta Festival Malta, Milano Arte Musica, Stockholm Early Music Festival, Südtirol Festival Merano, Monteverdi Festival Cremona, Ohrid Summer Festival, Tivat Music Festival, Lana Musik Festival, and Bologna Festival. 

Her concert activity has brought her to some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie de Paris, L’Auditori Barcelona and Valencia, and the Bartók National Concert Hall Budapest. 

Giulia Bolcato has collaborated with conductors including Jordi Savall, Marc Minkowski, Stefano Montanari, Umberto Benedetti Michelangeli, Antonino Fogliani, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Enrico Onofri, Jonathan Nott, Marco Angius, Stefano Rolli, Gianpaolo Bisanti, András Schiff, Giuseppe Andretta, Filippo Maria Bressan, Fabrizio Maria Carminati, Alvise Casellati, and Marcus Stenz. 

Among the stage directors with whom she has worked are Damiano Michieletto, Mario Martone, Ole Anders Tandberg, Luca Micheletto, Christine Jatahy, Stefano Vizioli, Lydia Steier, Marco Gandini, Bepi Morassi, Christoph Waltz, Stefania Panighini, Deda Colonna, Alessandra Premoli, Andrea Beuermann, Pier Francesco Maestrini, and Davide Livermore. 

She regularly collaborates with renowned ensembles including Le Concert des Nations, Il Divino Sospiro, Concerto Romano, Le Poème Harmonique, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Remer Ensemble, La Florida Cappella, Concerto Italiano, Ensemble Mare Nostrum, La Fonte Musica, Sezione Aurea, Seicento Stravagante, I Cameristi della Scala, Orchestra da Camera di Mantova, and Bazzini Consort. 

Also active in contemporary repertoire, she has appeared in Giovanni Sollima’s Il libro della giungla and Matteo Franceschini’s Alice and Dorian Gray. Her portrayal of Lilli in Perocco’s Aquagranda was especially acclaimed. Commissioned by Teatro La Fenice to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the 1966 Venice flood, the opera received the Special Franco Abbiati Prize in 2017. 

Giulia Bolcato graduated with highest honours in Vocal Performance from the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice before continuing her specialization in Renaissance and Baroque singing at the Dall’Abaco Conservatory in Verona, where she again graduated with highest honours and special distinction. In 2015, she received the Bergonzi Special Prize at the 53rd International Voci Verdiane Competition “Città di Busseto”. Alongside her musical studies, she earned a degree in Languages and Cultures of East Asia from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
