With a degree in art history and training in fashion design at the Cours Berçot in Paris, Alain Blanchot began working as a costume designer for the cinema and advertising. Very quickly interested in stage performances, he created costumes for european singers with atypical universes such as Brigitte Fontaine, Sapho, Anna Karina or Ingrid Caven. His taste for live shows leads him to original productions designed by young directors. In 2004, he began his collaboration with the director Benjamin Lazar with the costumes for "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme", a ballet comedy by Molière directed by Vincent Dumestre for the Poème Harmonique, a show lit by candlelight. He continues to explore the sumptuous and fanciful codes of Baroque opera with Landi's "Sant' Alessio", directed by the american conductor William Christie for the Arts Florissants with Philippe Jaroussky, and Lully's "Cadmus and Hermione" at the Opéra Comique in Paris, and refines his work on materials and color. Since, Alain Blanchot has participated in numerous productions of baroque operas (Rinaldo by Handel, Phaeton by Lully, Egisto by Cavalli, Venus and Adonis by John Blow...) in Paris (Opéra Comique, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Châtelet, Athenée...) but also abroad (Germany, Russia, New York, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Monte Carlo...) He also works on contemporary opera creations (Cachafaz after Copy, Au web ce soir live opera on internet, Lalala...) on classical works such as Cinderella, Carmen, Pelléas et Mélisande, La Nonne Sanglante meeting many directors, Robert Carsen, Jean-Romain Vesperini, Basil Twist, Aurélien Bory, Lilo Baur...

Alain Blanchot has also collaborated with the House of Guerlain to design the uniforms for the staff of the Guerlain boutique and institute on the Champs Elysées in Paris.

His costumes are regularly exhibited at the Centre National du Costume de Scène in exhibitions on the Arts Florissants, the 1001 Nights, fairy tales, the history of the Opera Comique, Molière in costume...

Recently, he dressed Jakub Jozef Orlinski, Léa Desandre, Sabine Devieilhe, he worked with Basil Twist, the New York puppeteer to create the costumes for Titon and Aurora in Paris. Recently he worked with Philippe Jaroussky for the creation of Sartorio's Orfeo, and Armide at the Opéra Comique in Paris.

In New York his work has been seen at Lincoln Center (Sant Alessio de Landy) at the BAM (Les Fêtes Vénitiennes, Rameau Maître à Danser) at the Fisher Center at Bard College (Henry VIII, Dalibor)
