Benjamin Lazar is an actor and stage director, and Artistic Director of the company Le Théâtre de l’incrédule. He creates productions for both theatre and opera, bringing together different artistic forms and historical periods: Baroque theatre with Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme by Molière and Lully; Yiddish theatre with Le Dibbouk by An-ski, in collaboration with Louise Moaty; Romantic theatre with Traviata – Vous méritez un avenir meilleur, after Dumas and Verdi; and Surrealist writing with Les petits contes by Leonora Carrington.

He has directed around twenty operas, including Lully’s Cadmus et Hermione with Le Poème Harmonique; Il Sant’Alessio with Les Arts Florissants; Massenet’s Cendrillon with Marc Minkowski; Sartorio’s L’Orfeo with Philippe Jaroussky; Riccardo Primo and Tolomeo at the Karlsruhe Handel Festival and at the Cologne Opera, conducted by François-Xavier Roth; George Benjamin’s Written on Skin; and Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer.
